Goodbye £1k – Day seven

Today I lost some regular freelance work. It paid me £1,000 a month and I have been doing it for 12 years. I knew it was coming and I was ready for it. I didn’t bat an eyelid, because I am really starting to believe that I am a money magnet.

Four exciting new opportunities have fallen on my plate in recent weeks. One has already come off and will cover the cost of at least one month of my former soap column in a TV mag.

The last time I lost regular freelance journalism work, I crawled into a dark place. I got rid of my cleaner (I know, first world problems and all that) and even contemplated going some part-time work for the measly sum of £10 an hour to help make ends meet.

Thanks to Jen Sincero’s books You Are A Badass – How To Live An Awesome Life and You Are A Badass At Making Money I have turned my fortunes around without having to work at the local boozer or stack shelves. I charge as much now for an hour of my time as I did for an entire day’s work at the magazine that has just binned me off. Life is so much easier when you have faith.

I have just received an e-mail confirming my online writing course, so I am excited about that. And I’ve got to thinking about online courses as a passive income source.

I am due to talk to a local bakery about helping them put together a series of online courses. I’ve just discovered that a videographer I have been working with, is something of an expert on them.

There are online courses available about everything under the sun. Surely, all I have to do is come up with one that suits my knowledge base? And that people are prepared to pay for. My husband has already poo-pooed the idea, but I have no time for naysayers.

There could be something in this germ of an idea and I have confidence that inspiration will strike.

Another exciting opportunity landed in my inbox from a purveyor of bespoke items for the rich. He has a celebrity client who is looking for a PR. I’ve just sent him an e-mail. My background is in showbiz journalism. It’s what I know best and only this morning I found myself hankering after a celebrity client and wondering where I should hang out in a bid to find one.

So despite the income loss, I am feeling positive. I started the day well. I meditated at 8am for 10 minutes and followed this by writing until 9am and by that, I mean proper writer. Proper novel writing and not journalism.

I am not too happy about the words that fell onto the page, but at least I have something to polish. You can polish a stone, but not an imaginary diamond…I just made that up by the way.

Personal manifesto

I am a money magnet. I am a great writer with a best-selling novel bursting to get out. I also have lots of brilliant ideas, which will soon have the cash rolling in.
